Gamera the Brave

Gamera the Brave is the twelfth film in the Gamera giant monster series and its second reboot; director Ryuta Tasaki, whose background was in children's oriented series like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, chose to return Gamera to its child friendly roots from the 1960s and 70s series. Marking Kadokawa Daiei Studio's first producing credit on the franchise, the film follows young Kosuke, who in 1973 witnesses the benevolent Avant Gamera sacrifice itself, and thirty three years later his son Toru raises a baby Gamera hatched from an egg. Released on April 29, 2006, the film opened sixth at the box office and grossed roughly 2.6 million dollars, a commercial failure; Shusuke Kaneko, director of the previous Gamera trilogy, called it fundamentally misguided in concept. The box office failure meant a planned sequel was never made.
