What Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II Is About
The United Nations forces build Mechagodzilla with technology from the future and the aim is explicit: destroy Godzilla entirely. At the same time an enormous egg is found on Adonoa Island, and the creature that hatches imprints on the first living thing it sees. Rodan is drawn in as well. Takao Okawara built it as one of the showiest entries in the Heisei run, and the miniature city, the suit work and the Mechagodzilla design are among the best of the period. The emotional line is the bond with the hatchling, which brings Godzilla somewhere unexpected by the end. Akira Ifukube's score carries the weight. Who it is for: viewers who like the nineties Godzilla films and miniature craft. Who it is not for: anyone wanting depth in the human plot, since the film does its work with the monsters.
