Godzilla vs. Destoroyah

The nuclear reaction in Godzilla's heart is running out of control. His body glows red and the scientists reach a single conclusion: the creature is about to melt down, and when it does it will explode. At the same time something else is waking in Tokyo Bay, where the residue of the Oxygen Destroyer that killed the first Godzilla in 1954 has settled and roused prehistoric organisms. What emerges from them is called Destoroyah. The idea is to tie the series back to where it began: the weapon used forty years ago is now the enemy itself. The story is built as a farewell, and Godzilla's death is presented not as a victory but as an unavoidable reckoning. Takao Okawara directed. This is the last film of the Heisei series. The meltdown is one of the most remembered images in the series: the creature falls apart from its own heat rather than burning the city. Who it is for: anyone following the Godzilla films and anyone who likes practical-effects monster cinema of the eighties and nineties. Who it is not for: anyone starting here. The film relies on knowledge of earlier entries, the human characters are weak, and the military briefings in the middle run long.
