What Georgica Is About
After the Second World War in Estonia, an old man lives alone on a deserted island that Soviet aircraft use at night for target practice. A boy who has stopped speaking is sent from the mainland and left on the island to keep him company. For a long time the two live side by side without speaking; the old man remembers the years he spent as a young missionary in Africa, the boy remembers his mother. Sulev Keedus’s hundred and four minute Estonian film tells its story less through speech than through sound, wind and emptiness; Evald Aavik and Mait Merekülski appear. It was completed in 1998.
