Somnambulance

Autumn 1944, Estonia. Tens of thousands are leaving the country. The reason is the approaching front. Some villages on the coast empty completely. A young woman steps off the last boat. Her name is Eetla. In stepping off she gives up her last chance to escape. She pays no heed to the cold wind and rain of September. She goes back to the lighthouse. Her father Gottfrid is the lighthouse keeper and did not expect her return. Nor did she. That return becomes an encounter with herself, and a recognition of it. Katariina Unt and Evald Aavik take the leads in Sulev Keedus’s Estonian and Finnish coproduction of 2003.
