What Gideon Is About
Gideon Dobbs, a young man who has never stopped dreaming, moves into a retirement home and finds that the residents have lost their appetite for life. Through his innocence he changes their lives and reminds them that each day is worth something; they win back their self respect and their wish to live. The film does not weigh Gideon by any measure of cleverness and takes his way of seeing the world as it is. The account does not draw the home as a sad waiting room; it shows a life still going on inside. Its cast of older actors stands at the film’s centre. Christopher Lambert and Charlton Heston appear in Claudia Hoover’s hundred and two minute American film, completed in 1998.
