1985, and Taiwan is still under martial law. Three school friends, Mabel, Liam and Aaron, learn to defy the rules together. All three are in love, and none of that love runs in a straight line. Years pass, the country changes, martial law is lifted, and the three of them build separate lives. Still, the only thing any of them can lean on is the other two. Yang Ya-che's film tells Taiwan's political change from the 1980s onward through three lives. Gwei Lun-mei, who plays Mabel, won best actress at the Golden Horse Awards. The director described it not as a gay film but as a political one that happens to have a gay character in it.
