What Go for Zucker Is About
Jaeckie Zucker stayed in East Germany, has no interest in religion, is deep in debt and lives for the pool table. He has not spoken to his Orthodox brother in the West since the Wall came down. When their mother dies, her will locks the two of them into the same house: to inherit anything they have to look reconciled and observe the rules of mourning. There is also a pool tournament he cannot afford to miss. Dani Levy does something German cinema had barely attempted since the war, telling Jewish life as comedy rather than tragedy, and seats the old East and West quarrel at the same table. It won six Lolas at the German Film Awards, best film among them.
