Bread and Tulips

A woman who misses her coach at a rest stop on the way home from holiday hitchhikes to Venice instead of waiting for her family to collect her. She decides to stay. The film sets up the escape not as a crisis but as a possibility being tried; the narrative does not blame her and leaves whether she will return open for a long time. Venice is shown as an everyday city rather than a destination. Silvio Soldini directed, with Licia Maglietta and Bruno Ganz. It is an Italian production. Who it's for: those who like calm Italian comedy about middle age. Who it's not for: viewers wanting pace; the film gives its weight to small scenes.
