Johnny, a young man on a Yorkshire sheep farm, has taken on the whole operation since his father's illness and drinks himself insensible at night. Gheorghe, a Romanian migrant worker, arrives for lambing season. The first days go in conflict, and then something else begins. It is Francis Lee's first feature. Josh O'Connor plays Johnny and Alec Secăreanu plays Gheorghe. The budget was one million pounds. Ninety-eight percent of Rotten Tomatoes critics were positive. One called it a quiet, moving rumination on loneliness and newfound intimacy, and an outstanding directorial debut for Francis Lee. It won the World Cinema Directing Award at Sundance 2017. It was named Best British Independent Film and took the Empire Award for Best British Film and the Stockholm festival's Best Direction prize. The worldwide gross was 2.6 million dollars, 1.2 million of it in the UK. The film was banned in Malaysia, China and some Arab countries over its content.
