What Greyfriars Bobby Is About
Edinburgh, 1865. An old shepherd and his small Skye terrier come into the city, and when the shepherd dies of pneumonia the dog will not leave the grave. He refuses to be taken in by anyone and starts sleeping on the grave in Greyfriars kirkyard, in defiance of a caretaker who allows no dogs there. When he is picked up for having no licence, what happens to him falls to the children of Edinburgh and the Lord Provost. A Disney production, directed by Don Chaffey. Bobby's story is a legend Edinburgh genuinely tells, and how much of it is true is argued over by historians, but the statue is still there. It was made as a children's film, and the feeling still lands.
