What Guilty Men Is About
Mariana, the one woman Willington has ever loved, is about to marry his cousin Rene. While he tries to win her back, the demobilisation of illegal armed groups is under way in the region, and fresh killings and rumours of a thief at large put Mariana’s new family in danger. Ivan Gaona set the film in Santander in 2005 and shot it as a thriller with the feel of a western. He cast non-professional locals from Guepsa, the town he comes from, and gave the characters their real names. The hundred and fifteen minute film opened on 13 October 2016, became Colombia’s submission to the 90th Academy Awards and won nine of the country’s national film awards.
