Hadi Be Oğlum

Bora Egemen's 2018 Turkish film is about a fisherman's relationship with his son. Ali has given his life to his young son Efe, a boy with difficulties in communication who does not speak, does not play and does not respond as expected to what happens around him. Ali looks for ways to reach him and is alone in the effort; those around him do not understand, the school is inadequate and there is not enough money. The film does not cure the child by a miracle and leaves the father's helplessness as it is. The sea and the boat are used as the one language the two share. Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ gives a quiet performance far from his usual roles. The tone is emotional and the ending openly aims for that. Who it's for: viewers who like family drama and recent Turkish cinema. Who it's not for: anyone wanting to avoid emotional effect; the film uses it plainly.
