Sudhir Mishra's 2005 Indian film follows three people who meet at university in the seventies. Siddharth joins the revolutionary movement, Vikram runs the intermediary business of politics, and Geeta tries to find her own way between them. The narrative coincides with the Emergency. Their choices diverge in that setting; the narrative vindicates none of them and shows how ideals erode across a long span of time. After completion the film could not be released for a long while and found distribution only years later. Kay Kay Menon and Chitrangada Singh lead. The narrative uses the political events of the period without explaining them. Who it's for: those who like Indian political cinema and generational narratives. Who it's not for: viewers unfamiliar with the history of the period; the film assumes many events as background.
