HD Soldier Läppli

Switzerland calls up its army in 1939. Läppli is clumsy and cannot keep his mouth shut. He puts his nose into everything. He is jailed for speaking against the military. Later he turns up inside the army once more. This time he is made an officer’s orderly. His mischief carries on exactly as before. He means no harm, yet his naivety throws everything into confusion. What he says sounds like nonsense and still leaves his superiors cornered. The world of the officers is held up to ridicule. The mockery never hardens and carries no spite. Rasser plays the man and directs the film himself. The situations he stumbles into make an audience laugh at the malice of chance or at stubborn militarism. The film laughs at the army without tearing it down. Alfred Rasser and Editha Nordberg appear in the one hundred fifteen minute film, a Swiss production Alfred Rasser finished in 1959.
