What Heavenly Shift Is About
Milan, a young man who fled the Balkan war and came to Budapest, joins an ambulance crew in order to get a residence permit. The crew do their work, but they also have arrangements with funeral firms: who is reached first, who is saved and whose body goes to whom have turned into questions of money. Milan enters this arrangement in order to raise what he needs to get his fiancée out of the war zone, and sinks steadily deeper. The film treats death as black comedy, but does not build the joke on the patient; the real matter is in whose hands the choice lies. Ötvös András and Roland Rába appear in Márk Bodzsár’s hundred minute Hungarian film; it was completed in 2013.
