Bas Devos's 2023 Belgian film is a short, quiet story set in Brussels. Stefan, a Romanian construction worker, is about to travel home to see his mother, and before going he makes a large pot of soup from what is left in his fridge and starts handing it out to the people he knows. In the course of that he meets Shuxiu, who works in a small restaurant and is also finishing a doctorate on mosses. The film does not construct a romance between them; it describes two strangers briefly sharing the same attention. The camera often leaves people to look at plants, at moss in cracks and at the neglected corners of the city. It runs a little over an hour and almost nothing happens. It won the prize of a section in Berlin. Who it's for: viewers who like quiet, observational films. Who it's not for: anyone looking for plot; the film offers none at all.
