10DANCE

A Japanese film built on dance. There are two dancers and both are named Shinya. Suzuki is Japan's champion in the Latin dances; energetic on the floor, reckless off it. Sugiki is the champion in standard and ranked high in the world; measured, distant and bound to the rules. The two come together for a competition. There is a category called ten dance: you must compete in all ten, five Latin and five standard. Nobody is master of both. They make an agreement: each will teach the other his own branch. The body of the film is that training. Two techniques, two ways of holding the body and two habits of work are constantly in conflict. The rehearsal scenes are held long and the dancing is shown directly. The rivalry between them turns in time into something else. The film does not explain the change; it proceeds through distance between bodies and through looks. The source is Satoh Inoue's manga. Ryoma Takeuchi plays Suzuki and Keita Machida plays Sugiki. Both performed their own dancing. Keishi Otomo directed. It was released on a streaming service on 18 December 2025. A good choice for anyone who likes dance films and relationships born of rivalry. For a viewer expecting a straightforward love story, the film keeps its distance and leaves most things unsaid.
