What Hitler's Children Is About
Chanoch Ze'evi's documentary sits down with the descendants of the men at the top of the Nazi regime: Himmler, Frank, Göring, Höss. What is it like to grow up carrying one of those surnames, how do you build a life when the family album contains a mass murderer, and is responsibility something a person can inherit at all. Each of them has answered differently. One refused to pass the name on. One chose sterilisation so the line would end. One wrote a book about his father and spent a lifetime disowning him. One goes back to Auschwitz and stands in front of school groups. The subject is not the crime itself but the weight of having been born after it.
