What Hold Back Tomorrow Is About
A man has been convicted of murder and is to be hanged the next morning. On his last night he makes a request: that a woman be with him. The request is granted and a woman is brought to the cell. Her own life is in disorder; she has reasons of her own for coming. The two of them talk through the night. The account passes almost entirely between these two people. Because the time is known from the start, every sentence carries weight. The film uses the execution not as a spectacle but as a clock. Cleo Moore and John Agar take the leads in Hugo Haas’s American film of 1955.
