Holy Cow

An eighteen year old who suddenly loses his father has to look after his younger sister. To find money he decides to enter the regional cheese competition and starts stealing milk. The film neither romanticises the countryside nor asks for pity; the narrative shows the young people's daily life, their fights and their workload on the same plane. Most of the cast are non-professionals living in the area. Louise Courvoisier directed; it is her first feature, shot in the region where she grew up. It won a prize at Cannes. Who it's for: those who like realistic stories of young people in the provinces. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a fast narrative; the film keeps the rhythm of daily life.
