What Homecoming Is About
Shan Shan is a businesswoman in Hong Kong. The pace of the city has worn her out. She wants to get away for a while. She returns to her village in Guangdong. There she meets her childhood friend Ah Zhen. Ah Zhen is married and runs the local school. Her life is the opposite of Shan Shan’s. The two women try to return to the old days. But a new distance sits between them. The gap between city and village seeps into their talk. The passing years have put something new between them. The film tells it at a slow pace. The shooting was done on the mainland. That was not a usual thing in those years.
