The Day the Sun Turned Cold

Guan Jian is a worker in his twenties. One day he goes to a police station. He wants to report a murder. The person killed was his father. The man died ten years earlier. The person he accuses is his own mother. The police take the report seriously. The investigation opens backwards into the past. The story moves largely through flashbacks. The childhood of Guan Jian comes into view in pieces. What happened inside that house emerges slowly. The mother, the father and the son each have their own side. Why the young man waited so long is asked as well. As the investigation goes on, the event fills in. The film was drawn from a real case in China. Siqin Gaowa and Tou Tsung-hua appear in the ninety nine minute film, a Hong Kong production Yim Ho finished in 1994.
