Arriving in Hong Kong from mainland China in 1986, Xiaojun has one aim: to save enough money to marry the fiancée he left in his village. He knows nothing about the city, the language or the rules. He becomes friends with Qiao, who works in the same place and has already learned how to survive, and their loneliness first draws them together and then makes them fall in love. But each of them has a plan, and across ten years they keep missing each other. Peter Chan tells a story of migration from inside a love story, with Teresa Teng’s songs as its emotional spine.
