What Who's the Woman, Who's the Man? Is About
In the earlier film Wing had passed herself off as a male singer to catch the attention of the music producer Sam, and the two of them finally said what they felt. This film picks up from exactly there and asks whether falling in love and actually living with someone are the same thing. Sam cannot settle into the daily version of the relationship, and a superstar known for an androgynous stage persona comes between them and unsettles everything again. Peter Chan turns the gap between gender as performed on stage and gender as lived into comic material without making anyone ridiculous. Leslie Cheung plays Sam, Anita Yuen plays Wing and Anita Mui the superstar, with Jordan Chan and Eric Tsang in the cast. The record’s cast list places Anita Yuen third, although the film is her story.
