What Hong Kong Godfather Is About
Sentenced to life for a massacre in the Chinatown of New York, Jia Shi Lan is pardoned through the influence of the mafia and walks out. But the outside is not the place he left; old accounts, new men and the question of who will run what are all waiting for him. The more he goes back into the same business, the clearer it becomes that everything starts again where the price he paid ended. The film takes the gang story that Hong Kong cinema of the eighties was full of and tells it without dressing up the violence, showing what it costs. Norman Tsui and Bryan Leung appear in Johnny Wang Lung-Wei’s ninety five minute film, completed in 1985.
