What Hugo the Hippo Is About
The Sultan of Zanzibar has a problem. His harbour is overrun with sharks. Because of it ships cannot come to trade. The Sultan finds a solution. He brings twelve hippos into the harbour. The hippos keep the sharks away. The plan works for a while. But then the people lose interest. Nobody feeds the hippos and the animals grow weak with hunger. The starving hippos come into the city looking for food. The Sultan’s adviser Aban-Khan then acts. He has all the hippos killed. One young one is left, and his name is Hugo. Bill Feigenbaum and József Gémes’s Hungarian and American animated coproduction of 1975 runs ninety one minutes.
