I Do

Jack Edwards, an Englishman living in New York, loses his immigration status after the death of his brother Peter, and needs to stay in the country to look after his widowed sister-in-law and his niece. The solution is to marry his closest friend Ali, a lesbian. Then he meets Mano and falls in love, and the cost of what he has done changes: within a legal order that does not recognise same-sex marriage there is no route by which he can stay with the person he loves. That inequality is the film’s real subject. David W. Ross, who wrote and produced it, also plays Jack; Glenn Gaylord directed. Jamie-Lynn Sigler plays Ali, Alicia Witt the sister-in-law and Maurice Compte plays Mano. It premiered at Outfest in Los Angeles on 18 July 2012 and opened in North America on 31 May 2013.
