I See You

A child goes missing, and strange things start happening in the home of the officer investigating: objects move, doors open. Then the film stops and starts again from a different point of view. The structure rests on a real phenomenon: phrogging, people secretly living inside someone else's house. Here two homeless young people, Mindy and Alec, are hiding in the Harper home. Mindy is experienced at it; Alec leaves traces on purpose to make the family doubt their sanity. Helen Hunt and Jon Tenney play the couple. Rotten Tomatoes has 73 percent of 45 reviews positive, with a consensus that the film gets tripped up on its own narrative contortions while a solid cast and an effective blend of scares and suspense make it worth watching. The box office was small: 1.2 million dollars against a 5 million budget. Who it is for: viewers who like structural surprises and domestic tension. Who it is not for: anyone whose patience runs out in the first half hour. The film is deliberately confusing until the second section, and viewers who do not give it that time get nothing back.
