Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me

A Twin Peaks film was David Lynch’s own idea; he said he was not yet finished with the material, and the French company CIBY 2000 paid for it. Co-creator Mark Frost wanted a sequel, Lynch a prequel; Frost kept an executive producer credit but stayed out. Kyle MacLachlan nearly pulled out, then agreed to only 5 days on set. The first act was rewritten around that: the agent on the Teresa Banks murder is no longer Cooper but one played by Chris Isaak, and Donna was recast with Moira Kelly. The series was shot largely on soundstages; the film went on location in Washington. Laura’s death scene fell off that schedule and was shot in Los Angeles on the last day, 31 October. Lynch shot more than 5 hours; what he cut came out as a separate film in 2014. It competed for the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Lynch said the audience booed, co-writer Robert Engels heard none, and contemporary reports described booing and applause. Angelo Badalamenti won best music at the 19th Saturn Awards and best original score at the 8th Independent Spirit Awards; Sheryl Lee was nominated at both. A good fit if you will take the victim’s last 7 days from the inside rather than a solution. Not for viewers who cannot watch abuse shown directly.
