In the documentary Scott Walker: 30 Century Man, David Bowie grants an influence in his own words. By Nick James's archive text, the Walker Brothers' one-off reunion album Nite Flights left its mark on Bowie, who was working with Brian Eno around then, and both men acknowledge it; the same text also records him as the film's executive producer. Another archive text, Ryan Gilbey's review of 8 Mile, uses him as a yardstick instead: no artist since the Bowie of the seventies, it says, has made better use of the acting impulses at the heart of pop music. Gilbey touches on his relation to the screen as well, noting that Nicolas Roeg steered him there in The Man Who Fell to Earth.
