Krautrock: The Rebirth of Germany

The documentary is about a musical current in Germany. It began at the end of the sixties. It ran through the nineteen seventies. The young musicians grew up in a country after a war. They did not want the American and British rock patterns. They set out to find a sound of their own. Can and Neu! came from that generation. So did Faust, Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk. Electronic instruments came to the front. Rhythms built on repetition were made. The studio was used like an instrument. This music echoed in the years that followed. David Bowie and Iggy Pop drew on it. The documentary joins footage of the period with interviews. David Bowie and Edgar Froese appear in the fifty eight minute documentary. It is a British production Benjamin Whalley finished in 2009.
