I Sent a Letter to My Love

Louise is a middle-aged woman. She lives alone. She looks after her brother Gilles. Gilles is disabled and does not leave the house. One day Louise places an advertisement in a newspaper. It is a lonely hearts notice. One of the replies comes from her brother. Gilles has no idea who placed it. Louise works it out and says nothing. She goes on writing as though she were another woman. The correspondence deepens, and in the letters Gilles becomes someone else entirely. Louise is seeing that side of her brother for the first time. Then Gilles asks to meet. The story comes from a 1975 novel by Bernice Rubens, with a screenplay by Gérard Brach and Moshé Mizrahi. Shooting took place in Brittany. Simone Signoret and Jean Rochefort appear in the ninety six minute film, a French production Moshé Mizrahi finished in 1980.
