What I Was, I Am, I Will Be Is About
İlker Çatak's film brings two people together in Marmaris. Baran is a Kurdish gigolo who wants a future in Europe; Marion is a German pilot trying to come to terms with a cancer diagnosis. Each sees what the other needs, and they make an arrangement: a marriage on paper. Back in Hamburg they marry, she rents him a flat and finds him work at the airport. The beginning is promising, but both of them are holding things back, and the arrangement gets harder as feeling enters it. The film neither condemns the marriage as a fraud nor turns it into a love story, and what the two of them have actually persuaded each other of stays unresolved to the end.
