I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK

A young woman who believes she is a cyborg is admitted to a psychiatric hospital. She will not eat, because machines do not. Another patient, who believes he steals other people's traits, decides to help her. His solution is strange and it works: instead of arguing her out of the delusion, he finds a way to get her to eat from inside it. The film neither romanticises mental illness nor sets out to correct it. Park Chan-wook made it directly after his revenge trilogy, and the tone is its opposite. Rain and Lim Soo-jung lead, and it won a prize in Berlin. Who it's for: those curious about another side of the director, and anyone who likes strange, colour-saturated fantasy. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a serious account of mental health; the film runs on fable logic throughout.
