In Between Seasons

Mi-kyung is a woman living a plain life with her son. Her son Soo-hyun goes into a coma after an accident. Waiting at the hospital, she learns that Yong-joon, whom she had taken for her son's closest friend, is in fact his boyfriend. Lee Dong-eun's first film was adapted from a graphic novel he drew himself. The telling builds no coming-out scene and stages no confrontation; the real subject is a mother realising she did not know her son and not knowing what to put beside that. The film does not leave Yong-joon alone either; his grief is a grief nobody recognises. Bae Jong-ok plays Mi-kyung. It screened in the New Currents section at the Busan Film Festival and took an award there.
