Mylène St-Sauveur What In the Arms of My Enemy Is About
Two brothers in their late teens, Jakub and Vladimir, join the Cossack army to escape poverty. There are two other brothers left on their own, Elias and Roman, who steal horses to survive. When their paths cross the encounter proves lethal and Vladimir is killed. Filled with rage, Jakub becomes fixed on revenge, and nobody comes out of the pursuit that follows unharmed. The film does not offer revenge as a solution; it shows violence working in the same way on both sides. The account keeps reminding us that all four young men come out of poverty. Adrien Jolivet and Gregoire Colin appear in Micha Wald’s eighty five minute Belgian film, completed in 2007.
