What In the Line of Duty 3 Is About
The 1988 Hong Kong film by Arthur Wong and Brandy Yuen is the entry in the In the Line of Duty series that began with Cynthia Khan. Two people who carry out a jewellery robbery for an organisation in Japan cross to Hong Kong, and a young policewoman goes after them. The film's value lies not in the story but in the fighting and stunt work: sequences on the face of a building, in a car park and in a nightclub were shot with almost no safety provision. Cynthia Khan's physical performance here is what let her carry the series. Michiko Nishiwaki's presence strengthens the fights. The story is thin, the characters shallow and the comic passages break the tone. Who it's for: viewers who like Hong Kong action cinema and fight films of the eighties. Who it's not for: anyone wanting a sound story, or avoiding violent content.
