What The Champions Is About

A young man from the country who moves like an acrobat has to flee his village after injuring a wealthy socialite during an innocent contest. On his first day in the city he runs into a struggling football team, and they see what he can do. What follows is a fight carried on both on the pitch and off it. The film puts kung fu and football inside the same scene; the passages with the ball are choreographed as carefully as the fights, and Yuen Biao’s acrobatics sit at the centre of the account. Moon Lee is also in Brandy Yuen’s ninety one minute Hong Kong film, completed in 1983.
