Intelligent Trees

The documentary is about communication between trees. The German forester Peter Wohlleben has watched this for years. The scientist Suzanne Simard works in the same field. Both see the forest as a community. They argue that trees pass information to each other. That passing happens through the root network. Ties of kinship are described between trees of the same species. Older trees are said to support young saplings. The findings sound hard to believe at the outset. The documentary backs the claims with images. Measurements made in the forest are shown. The telling runs through the two specialists. Scientists who disagree do not appear in the film. It therefore reads as a case being argued. Suzanne Simard and Peter Wohlleben appear in the forty five minute documentary. It is a Canadian and German production Julia Dordel and Guido Tölke finished in 2017.
