What Microcosmos Is About
A single day in a meadow, filmed at the scale of the insects living in it. The narration is almost entirely absent: rather than informing you, the film asks you to look. You watch what rain means to a ladybird and how two dung beetles fight over a ball, and the editing turns these into scenes. The photography was new at the time and remains impressive. Unlike most nature documentaries it declines to give the animals names or personalities, and you end up attached to them anyway.
