Jacques Perrin

Jacques Perrin played Maxence in The Young Girls of Rochefort: in Jonathan Rosenbaum's description, a sailor and painter whose imagined and painted ideal of woman turns out to be Delphine, whom he has never met and who lives a few streets away. Rosenbaum counts Maxence missing Delphine at the cafe by a matter of seconds and leaving Rochefort the most tragic moment in all of Jacques Demy's work. The same piece records that Perrin later became one of France's important producers, and a writer and a director besides. Winged Migration is indeed a documentary of his own, and Criterion's programme note writes that the film catches the wonders and the mysteries in the flight of birds as they had not been caught before.
