Almost a Man

Michele, a young writer, slowly loses his hold on the people around him. He feels guilty, his interest in work goes, and he draws away from reality; in the end he is placed in an institution and treated by the methods of the period. When he leaves it he returns to the house where he spent his childhood and finds there the reasons for the state he is in. The film tells the illness not as an event but as the outcome of a long past; the silences and the expectations inside a family stand at the centre of the account. The account makes ample use of inner voice and of remembering. Jacques Perrin and Lea Padovani appear in Vittorio De Seta’s ninety three minute Italian film, completed in 1966.
