What Flight of the Innocent Is About
Vito is a child growing up in southern Italy inside a family that lives by kidnapping and murder. When a rival clan kills his entire family he has to run on his own. On the road he comes upon the trace of one of the crimes his family committed and sees with his own eyes the wreckage it left. What follows is both a flight and an attempt to make something good. The film presents the child neither as an innocent symbol nor as the continuation of the crime; it is about someone too young to decide anything having to decide. Carlo Carlei’s hundred and five minute Italian film was completed in 1992.
