Corruption

Stefano has finished school in Switzerland: a quiet, sensitive young man. He is thinking of entering a monastery. His father, a rich Milanese publisher, will not have it; he wants his son to take over the business one day. To get the idea out of his head, he takes him on a boat trip and brings a young woman along. Mauro Bolognini turns the reckoning between a father and a son into a choice between money and faith. The father's method is open and cold; while the boy thinks he is making his own decision he is actually moving through a mechanism prepared for him. A hard film about what wealth was in the Italy of the sixties. Alain Cuny plays the father, Jacques Perrin the son and Rosanna Schiaffino the woman.
