Twenty year old Davide, living on the edge of Rome, is out of work and has fathered a child with the young Ivana. Over the course of a single day he chases his contacts looking for a job, and the running about, from his uncle’s scrapyard to the intermediaries who pass him from one to the next, sets the poor part of the city beside the wealthy part within the same day and takes the young man to places he had not reckoned with. The screenplay of Mauro Bolognini’s eighty four minute Italian French production was prepared by Pier Paolo Pasolini together with Alberto Moravia, starting from two of the writer’s short pieces. Jean Sorel plays Davide, Valeria Ciangottini plays Ivana and Lea Massari plays Marina. In Italy it could only be shown with cuts and an age restriction.
