What Agostino Is About
Agostino is thirteen and is on holiday with his widowed mother. Her growing closeness with a man shakes him, and out of jealousy he falls in with a group of rough boys from the area. That group forces on him things a boy of his age cannot carry, and he meets the hard side of growing up before he is ready for it. The film puts the boy’s way of seeing at the centre and is about what it means to look at your mother and suddenly see someone else. It was adapted from the book by Alberto Moravia. Ingrid Thulin appears in Mauro Bolognini’s ninety minute Italian film, completed in 1962.
