What A Captain's Honor Is About
In the early eighties a televised debate is held about the Algerian war. On the programme Professor Paulet accuses Captain Caron over his methods in the war. Caron had been killed in action in 1957. The captain’s widow, Patricia, brings a defamation suit over what was said. The case takes the war itself into court. Rather than putting one side in the right, the film sets the testimonies beside each other. The account looks at how the past gets argued over in the present. Claude Jade and Charles Denner are also in the cast. Nicole Garcia and Jacques Perrin take the leads in Pierre Schoendoerffer’s French film of 1982.
