Interstate 60

A film set on a highway that does not exist. Neal is about to finish university and his father wants him to study law. He wants to paint and cannot say so. On his birthday he makes a wish: he wants an answer about what his life should be. Then a strange man appears: O. W. Grant. He grants wishes, but not as they were meant, exactly as they were said. He gives Neal a package to deliver, and the address is on Interstate 60. No such highway exists on any map. Neal sets off and arrives at a different town at every stop. Each town is built on a single idea: in one everyone is a lawyer, in another lying is impossible, in another everyone takes the same drug. The structure is episodic and each episode is built like a moral puzzle. James Marsden plays Neal and Gary Oldman plays O. W. Grant. Amy Smart, Christopher Lloyd and Chris Cooper are in the cast. Bob Gale directed; he had earlier written Back to the Future. It had no wide theatrical release and found its audience on video. An interesting production for anyone who likes fantastical road films and episodic storytelling. For a viewer wanting a consistent world, the film makes its own rules and some episodes are weaker than others.
