What Intimate Enemies Is About

Algeria, 1959. When the commander of a French platoon is killed, an idealistic lieutenant is sent to replace him and learns within days what the war actually is. Beside him is a sergeant who has been doing this for years and believes in nothing, and in the platoon there are Algerians serving in the French army. One correction: the Turkish text places it in the mountains of Kabil, when the film is set in the Kabylie region of Algeria, while Kabul is the capital of Afghanistan. Florent-Emilio Siri shows the torture and the napalm directly, which French cinema has rarely done.
